Laptop Monitor Issue

Okay, I have a really old HP laptop I don't use and I want to figure out what's wrong with it. It's got Intel Pentium if that is of any relevance. The problem is every time I turn it on (this problem decreases as computer is online longer) the monitor will turn off and I know to push the little button on it that resets the monitor when you open the cover and I was wondering what the problem could be.

I've never heard of that before. Let's say you turn it on today (the 8th), and it keeps turning off. If you turn it on tomorrow (the 9th), will the turning off have decreased from what it was on the 8th? I'm trying to understand what you mean by

If that's the case, keep using it and see what happens. If not, come back and we'll do some research.

Sorry for not being clear, the problem will decrease as the computer is on longer but resets when it is shut down.

This has been resolved. For some reason I traced the problem to an old anti-virus I was using.
