Laptop HDD making "Rattling noise"

Hey all,

Just looking at friends laptop now, which is in need of a reformat. I took the hard drive out, so I could back up his pictures etc, and I noticed when I shake it, it makes rattling noises, like something is loose inside of it.

Now, I shake the HDD in the same two directions, and it always makes the same noises, and at the exact same postitions.

Is it normal for laptop HDD's, or should he buy a new one?

Yes it is normal mine does it too but mine has a sticker on it that actually says it is normal. but u shouldnt keep shaking it or it will break. and as long as you cant hear that rattle when the hard drive is in the laptop when your moving it around normal then its fine.
