hi, I need a new hard drive for a HP Presario C300. It does not have one in there when I bought it so I have nothing to go by. all I know that it is SATA. would any SATA laptop hard drive work with any laptop or do I need one specifically for this laptop ?

2.5" SATA drive, any data size should do. You might want to contact the manufacturer's Customer Support and check if there's a specific adaptor needed for the HDD to mount up to the laptop itself. That, or google is a great tool!

I found the manual for that series laptop. 5-8 has some illustrations on the drive setup. In that drawing it looks like a PATA drive, but I realize it could be a generic photo. If you're sure that no adapter is needed, just buy a hard drive that will work for you (I recommend an SSD if you can wing it, instant performance boost for an older system) but of course buy what works for you. Any drive up to 750GB should be ok in this laptop. OEM systems can be picky about drive sizes higher than that.
