Default Laptop for Engineering Student

So, i am going to eventually get a laptop mid july or the start of august. It will be dedicated for school and engineering programs such as autocad, MATLAB, etc. I am staying at home for college and plan on using my desktop (specs below) in conjunction with my laptop. i just need to know if I should get the i3, i5, or i7 and if it's possible to get an i7 (with dedicated graphics card) for under $900 USD?

tl;dr------> i7 processor, windows 7, under $900 USD
