Default laptop died

My laptop's motherboard died, I do have a warranty on it so it will be fixed but before i ship it off, i bought it from circuit city fyi, i need to get stuff off the hard drive. how can i do this? if i put it into a different computer will it work?

You will have to put the HD in another laptop.
No it won't work right in another laptop. Drivers, etc.
