Laptop 8700M GT vs Go 7900GS?
I have a Dell XPS M1710 laptop with a removeable/upgradeable GPU (I have already replaced it once before when the old GPU burnt out). The laptop is currently running a GeForce Go 7900GS 512MB and the laptop has a native screen resolution of 1920x1200. I was hoping to get a bit more performance out of this laptop as I can't afford a new one just yet. There's a limited selection of cards I can upgrade to due to compatibility, there's no point getting the 7900GTX as performance gain will be minimal. The 7950GTX is ridiculously expensive and prone to burning out easily so that leaves me with the Quadro FX1600M (8700M GT, it can be flashed back to run as the 8700 rather than the quadro). However the 8700M is only 256MB whereas my 7900 is 512MB. Anyone know how the 7900GS 512MB would compare to the 8700M GT? Unfortunately my guess is it may be worse? Thanks
