Well try this:

you will need a network interface card in each computer then you will need a cat5e crossover cable and connect them up. Now run the windows xp network setup wizard and then you should find you bro's computer in network places after a re-boot. If you are only connecting two computers you will not need a router but if you need a router i reccomend you use standard cat6 cables or standard cat5e. Hope this helps,

So is an ethernet cable just like a lan cable? And Im using in built LAN, will this work?

Yes that will work. But you must have a crossover cable to go from PC direct to another PC.

Then you need to set up a small network through your XP network settings so the computers can find eachother.
