Default Lagging videos

I have a nice rig that i built about 8 months ago. Here are the specs for ref:

1. Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail
2. GeForce 8800GTS 640MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card
3. LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard
4. - CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
5. Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
6. Acer AL1917WAbd Black 19" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 700:1 Built in Speakers
7. Sunbeam NUUO SUNNU550-US-BK ATX12V / EPS12V 550W Power Supply 100-120V CE, UL (CUL), TUV, CB, FCC, FIMKO, SEMKO, DEMKO, NEMKO

When i watch videos on windows media player the video lags (not too bad but a little bit). I play oblivion and it doesn't lag. Why is it lagging when playing a mere video. Isn't my video card supposed to play that without any problems at all?

i didn't have that problem before. Thanks for any help
