Kazaa

So if they sell 1 million albums (very possible for some artists) then they make

15x1000000 = £15,000,000 (- 2.5mill)

Total: £13,000,000

Just from CDs! Although not all of it will go to the music artist.

Kazaa and Lime wire, and emule all use te GNUTella network. so they all have the same software on them.
no they dont.
emule uses the edonkey2k network and now the kademelia network aswell, (edonkey connects to edonkey2k network and the overnet network...btw emule is by far more popular), this network does not run in tandem with GNUTella.
kazaa uses the fasttrack network (Kazaa & KLite (and other spyware free variants), iMesh and Grokster, which is a totally different network to GNUTella the apps that do use the gnutella network are:
Shareaza
Gnucleus
XoloX
LimeWire
BearShare
Morpheus

the most used network used by N00b's is the fasttrack network because of its ease of use, however the network is dogged with malicious files and fake and corrupted files (the RIAA and MPAA have found a rather simple way to corrupt files on the network, it basically makes mp3s have flaws films have errors and so on) there are ways to stop this but they are longwonded, the network is slowly being killed off, which may be a good thing...
the p2p communities second biggest network is the edonkey2k network, by far superior, it has a wealth of files that cant be corrupted like kazaa and suchwhat but needs a more intelligent user, the network is growing massively, even now due to its fine construction and probably the fact its open source, gnuttela clients do pale in comparrison and do not have a wealth of stuff like emule, its pretty darn poor really, you can get emule from www.emule-project.net and if you want files off the network there are emule mods that contain fake checking if someone has renamed certain files and there are verified sites like sharethefiles.
there is another p2p app that hasnt been mentioned and it is the oddest but growing fast way to get files.. bittorrent, its not a network per sae its a p2p app that connects to trackers that have people with the file, this way of getting files is by far the easiest way to get caught by the RIAA or MPAA or any other companies like that as the networks are small and can easily show what people are grabbing(if you are getting illegal stuff off the network this may be a concern).

btw if you are doing anything like that, id reccomend you get a program like protowall and a ip list that will block the likes of the riaa and mpaa it works with every p2p app mentioned above.
hope that clears up some mis-information, i would have typoed more info but i didnt want to bore you too much.

ares is the best program to use for music, movies, software, ect...

Emule is by far the biggest resource for any files films, software, games, (console game rips too) pr0n, full albums(perhaps lacking in mp3's that are on there own as most people who use emule just download whole albums of mp3's in one go) there is everything conceivable on the network. Fasttrack (Kazaa) may have the most users which 99% of are n00b's to p2p as kazaa is a big name (unfortunately)

The Ares name has been with the P2P community for some time. However, in late 2002, developer Alberto Treves departed Gnutella and established his independent Ares network. Although the venture got off to a rocky start, the Ares network has managed to climb to 800,000 users.
Ares has also begun licensing its product to other P2P companies, such as Warez.com. Warez.com has released a product called "Warez P2P." The client is virtually the same as Ares, at least on the surface. However, recent reports that its a spyware laden product like KaZaa.

August 25, 2004 - 23:00 number of users on each network:

FastTrack 2,650,127
eDonkey/eMule 2,157,931
Overnet 1,002,565 <however the edonkey client connects to this network
Warez 757,077 < Same network Ares is on
Gnutella 409,800
