iPhone logic board

If my logic board was broken in half and I threw part of it away (memory side) if someone got a hold of it could they make it work in there iPhone by somehow moving the chip or laying the half of the logic board in with another half to make it work or does the logic board need to be connected. It's an iPhone 3G.
