Internet Speed vs. RAM

I've been debating whether or not to ask to upgrade our internet speed or ask for RAM for my birthday. I wanted to get the RAM first, but then I look at the Qwest site about the Premier deal, and I want to ask for that more, considering how slow it is now.

Which would you rather have?

The Internet speed?

or

The RAM?

The faster speed comes with a $10 increase in our now 31.99.

The RAM would cost exactly $65.99 at Crucial.com.

We could probably upgrade the internet in about a couple days or less.

It would take about 2-3 weeks to get the RAM.

The cost alone for the internet could prove to be too much for our budget.

The RAM may not work.

Obviously, I've been thinking about this for a long time, and considering the above, I really want the internet, but the RAM would be better in terms of performance for my own personal computer, BUT, I don't do hardcore gaming or anything that would really bog down the RAM alone, and also the speed of my internet would go along with my mom's computer (it would affect hers first, considering she's connected to the modem, and I'm connected wirelessly, or wired through the router.

PS, I have a Toshiba Satellite M115 with 512 RAM and an Intel Celeron M 1.6 processor. My current internet speed is 1500... and I would like advice on which to ask for.

PPS, just some insight on my dilemma at hand.

well i say internet, with that processor the ram isnt going to do much, cause with that processor you cant multitask too much anyway, so i say internet myself

exactly what I was going to say.

On other forums, people are saying to get RAM because the Internet is less of a factor when it comes to computer performance. They also say that my processor could effectively handle the maximum amount of RAM that any 32 bit computing platform can handle.
What do you guys think?

Internet has no effect in computer performance.. but the way I see it you don't really need that much more performance since you aren't doing a lot of gaming or anything. And IMO 512mb of ram will be enough for a celeron M. And 512mb is fine for normal usage.

Yeah, I'm on 512mb and everything works pretty good. Things load fast enough, I don't play the newest games but Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas works really good.

only if you plan on getting vista would i say get more RAM. otherwise its faster internet all they way from me.
