internet (mobo question)

hi guys on my mother board i have two lan ports.

i have i wireless router but i done use it for my comp its for my mos upstairs..i was wondering if you could plug the cable modem directly to the computer than on the second one plug the router in..

becasue on one of my games (StarCraft) it casues to much latency when i create games.
