Default Intel's C2Q, a real quad core?

Well, as many of you guys know, the C2Q is basically two quad core processors.

Basically two dual core dies on one module like this:

Now, AMD is coming out with their Altair chip which has four dies on a single chip.

Here is the difference:

My question to you is this: Is it worth it to buy a c2q when the real quad cores are only on their way out? The Bloomsfield will be Intel's true quad core.

We know the AMD offering is going to be a true quad core, yet, is it going to be better than Intel's Core 2 technology?

I guess only time will tell.

Also I feel as if getting a C2Q was a mistake, I should have waited until Bloomsfield was out (I can't believe they named it that).

Yeah, but you'd have to have a new motherboard to boot.
I'm still aiming to get my Quad by Intel as soon as I can tempt my mind to press order.

I'd then update in around 3 years to the next best offering for the money.

Intel should be rolling out "true" quad cores with the release of Penryn.

Sometime around 2008-2009, I think.

Another upside is that there are new instructions like SSE4 and new fabrication materials. Intel is smart to go with hafnium-based dielectrics. SOI is starting to max out of it's potential and if AMD wants to go further in the future, they'll need better fab materials.
