Thumbs up Intel Quad Core, first look

With those specs, Quad core technology will definitely improve performance for 3D rendering, video editing and video compression/decompression.

Quad cores have been onsale for a long time. This isnt that impressive, its just screen shots of task manager, cpuz, and the computer properties. It is a beast at video rendereing and editing. Benchmarks have already been ran for the quad cores.

This is good news. That means businesses that specialize in this field will be able to boost productivity up considerably, thus boosting the economy for any country. I'm glad to se that new technology can increase economy.

Althought the quad core CPU looks very impressive, it's very expensive and so far---they benefit the most in fields as Sytheious suggested. To the average end user like us, I don't think we'll see too much benefit--but mainly bragging rights. Still, it's good for something and as our applications become more and more demanding, quad core will rock!!!

Dam those specs look pretty sweet. But I hate intel so I guess it doesn't really matter.

Awesome, but it wont be REALLY needed untill mid 2007, so if anyones got a core duo2, just stick with that.

......and can you believe Intel is working on an 80 Core prototype right now?!?!?!

"This is not a drill, this is serious: Intel is in the process of developing multi-core processors that are capable of increasing floating-point performance into the spheres that are reached by computing clusters today. The projected performance of Intel's 80-core prototypes at the time it could become available is expected to hit one teraflop. At this point it's also interesting to note the floating point performance of a Pentium 4 processor: A 3 GHz model reaches 0.006 teraflops, which underlines the impressive capabilities of the 80-core prototype. We have to add that floating point performance is more important for scientific applications and number crunching than it is for desktop applications, but it might enable geologists to analyze drill test samples on their way home instead of processing it in expensive server farms."
