Intel Q9550 or AMD x4 955 |

They're roughly on-par in terms of performance. But considering the 955 costs $150 and the Q9550 costs over $250, obviously the 955 blows it away in terms of price/performance. There is no compelling reason to buy a Qxxxx series cpu anymore.

The exception being that if you already have a system compatible with the Q9550, it may cost more to move to a 955 since you would have to buy a motherboard.

True, but my point was fiscally it doesn't make sense in terms of a new build/board.
