Well, given this pricing I may just give the QX9650 at ~$A1200 a miss in favour of a Q6700 and wait for Nehalem as my next upgrade

EDIT: Pricing is in $US as far as I know

Intel plans it usual price cut that will affect mostly the old 65nm parts. On April 20th Intel will cut Core 2 Quad Q6700 from the current $527 suggested retail price to $270. The super popular Q6600 at 2.4GHz will drop from $270 to $229. At the same time, Intel plans to introduce its Core 2 Duo E8300 45nm based CPU with 6MB cache and 2.83GHz clock and it will start selling it for $169.

Why the Q9700 was priced so high in the first place made me wonder. The Q6600 is going to be stupidly cheap as well, almost in competition with the Phenoms.

I presume you mean Q6700, if so then same here, I would have preferred it to the Q6600 but I just could not justify the extra $$ to extra MHz ratio when I first built this box.

Humm...I was just gonna build a new rig. I guess I'll wait until summer then I can get a nice quad core plus the nvidia 9 series that is supposed to come out soon.

EDIT: What's this Nehalem? Never heard of it. (Yes, I am a newb here, not so good with processors and whatnot)

q9450 has a locked multi :( only the QX's are unlocked, I was thinking Q9650 myself, should hit 4.0Ghz no worries.
