Is there a reason Dual Core is better?

Quad core>Dual Core>Single Core

The reason being is that the more cores you have, the more multitasking you can do. Like if you were to have Itunes to convert WMA songs while browsing the net or w/e, there will be no slowdown in either of the programs, because each core can handle the two different programs.

yes, my friend just got it and it is insane, it wont stop, he threw everything hes got at it and its still asking for more, and there is a way to assign each program to its own core in task manager , its really cool!

No, Core 2 Extreme just means it's top of the line. Like this X6800 dual core is still Core 2 Extreme:
