Installing Nvidia drivers over ATI drivers?

So my new 8800gts should be arriving tommorow but i'm not sure about the drivers. I downloaded the latest 158.24 Nvidia drivers but heres the problem. I currently have a X1650 pro in the computer with catalyst 7.3 drivers. Problem is I can't get in there to un install the drivers because the cards video ram is bad. Can I just put the 8800gts in and log into windows then un install the catalyst drivers then install the nvidia drivers or do I need to do a reformat?
