installed 4gb of RAM, computer says 3gb

i previously had 2 gb of 667 ddr2 ram, and just installed another 2gb of the same. the only difference is the brand. (2 of the sticks are patriot and the new 2 are kingston)

i'm using all 4 slots, and when i turned on my computer, it says 3.00 GB of RAM. (used to say 2 GB, should say 4 GB now)

any ideas?

you have to minus like 750 MB if you use vista and your video card memory

if you have XP i think it is like 256MB and your Video Card memory

also 32-bit doesn't read exactly 4gb, it is a little less.



i am running vista with 4GB and a 256MB card and it says 3GB
