I would change a few things from ssc's build.

Case:

Hard drive (if you think you don't need the extra 250GB):

With those small downgrades, you can afford a MUCH better graphics card:

Also, you should keep in mind that Intel's new line of processors are coming out this November, and the new line of graphics cards are probably coming out soon too.

Crucial Ballistix (Micron D9 IC's), you can't go wrong with them. They're the fastest RAM around and highly OC'able. I also vouch for it. It is the gamer's RAM of choice.

Agree with the

Caase, PSU

hardrive is upto personal preference so thats upto him.

and disagree with the graphics card change he said he only does a little bit of gaming you dont need that graphics card for "a little bit of gaming"

If he is only doing light gaming the 8600 is enough. Also get the 680i chipset. Preferably this motherboard.

i was wondering after i put the computer together what else am i going to need to buy software wise to get the computer to run?

With only 2 gigs of RAM, I would suggest Windows XP instead of Vista (It's also obviously cheaper).
