Default information on building a new pc

i am thinking about building a new desktop. right now i have a dell dimension 2400 with 750mb or ram, an intel penium 4, 80 gb hard drive, not too great of a graphics or sound card. i just wanted some suggestions on how to make a great multitasking computer for around 1,000 dollars. if u have any suggestions on what hardware and such to get please let me know

I just built myself a new system for under $1,000 (excluding monitor and prices of stuff I already had, computer price only).

I got an EVGA 680i mobo, Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, 2GB Corsair ram, 160GB HDD, EVGA 7600GT (you probably want more than that if you are gaming), Zalman 9500, and an Antec 550W PSU, $40 case. Full specs in my sig, anything not listed I already had. Got all this for $850ish from Newegg.com. After I resolved the problem I was having it worked fine (a user problem).

Tbh it realy isnt that hard at all , if you have messed about with old computers there are very little differences tbh expcep that the newer parts are more modern and better obviously
Just like ask about here and use common sense you should be fine
