Default Re: I'm stumped....

Thanks for the help guys.

This is what the blue screen says....

Technical Information
***STOP:0x000000D1 (0x0015EA3C, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xBAA58B8A)

Plus the usual make sure all hardware and software is installed correctly, etc etc etc

Then after I restart I get a message indicating that the system has recovered from a serious error.

Clicking for more information shows an error signature:
BCCode : 100000d1 BCP1 : 0015EA3C BCP2 : 00000002 BCP3 : 00000000
BCP4 : BAA58B8A OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1

Then Technical information shows:
C:\DOCUME~1\Allen\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER72cd.dir00\Mini 090906-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Allen\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER72cd.dir00\sysd ata.xml

Thanks, but this is way over my head now. I think my only option would be a reformat which brings up another issue.....

I have always had a primary and slave HD in my PC but my new MB supports only one IDE which I have to use for my CD/DVD drives. My primary is an SATA, no problem there, but when I disconnect my optical drives to hook up an IDE slave it wont recognize. In the past I had two IDEs one slave one primary, then I moved on to a primary SATA with an IDE slave because my old MB supported multiple IDEs. I have never had an issue setting it up. Its been awhile but I remember just plugging in the HD and removing all jumpers and the computer would recognize it as a slave.

I've come to the party late...

the problem is (as the error message suggests), the problem is in the file SFNGS32.SYS...

you need to find out what device this relates to...
to do this...
(start in safe mode)
right click on your My Computer icon, select manage. now select the device manager from the left hand window...
now look at the devices,
right click on the device and select properties, look at the tab (forget what it's called -possibly driver?) where it lists what device driver files are used...

(as a random guess I'm going to say check the video card and the sound card first as they are likely targets).

When you've found out what device it is, then search the internet for either the latest, or the original drivers.

I had the exact same problem with the drivers for my soundcard... obtained automatically from windows update. -all that's needed is to either update -or roll back the driver installation.

OK, ROOT was right the file is a sound driver and after I uninstalled it the error disappeared, but as soon as I reinstall (from cdrom) the driver the error returns. I even tried a restore point from August 1st and that didnt help.

I also checked the startup tab on the system configuration utility and noticed an item called dumprep 0 -k with command %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

I disabled that because I know it wasn't there before.

I also ran hijackthis and here is a copy of the log (I dont know what to delete, if anything from here)....
