So i've heard from plenty of friends and others that building is cheaper and i have no idea what id be doing. Can someone help me pick out the hardware for a good computer with 8Gigs of DDR3 and at least a 2.6Ghz quad core and a Decent graphics card? I want to know if such a computer can be built and run well for around 500 or so.
If anyone could help id greatly appreciate it :)

Haha well quite simply because i thought the more cores the faster. Hints the title im a noob ahahah. But Im running cinema 4d and After effects on my desktop now and its kind of sluggish and it has an AMD Phenom X4 1950e and 4 gigs of DDr2 or 3 im not sure.. I just want help.. haha

The time for buying Dual Cores for any kind of gaming is over. You can get much more performance out of a quad (or better) depending on the game and situation, but Dual Cores are better relegated to low end business machines.
