Default I'm looking for a network card for my desktop that could have maximum range.

Keep it under $100 :P.

I'm looking for a network card for my desktop so I can use wireless networks around the neighborhood. What is the range measured in, and where can I buy some cards with higher range? Any suggestions?

Using other's networks with out permission is against the law.

As for raw horse power you can't beat a TP-Link card. www.tplink.com

Well it could be a government free hub thing, that's too far away from him. Or a library connection.
