Unhappy I want to speed up my comp

i want to speed up my computer since it is running very slow
and takes a lot of time to load

it is using a pentium III processor and i dnt want to change it
i have 128MB ram memory
and a 30GB hard drive

can i speed it up without buying a new processor r any hardware and stuff etc.


can any1 help me

lots of tweaks in the links...
just make sure you do a reg save before you change anything, and a little known fact is that xp runs better on more ram.

maybe adding ram would speed it up,
how fast is that processor
how fast is the spin speed on that hard drive and what o/s are you running

Why havent ya updated to SP2? How many mhz is ya processor, ya drive will spin at 5400 or 7200, does that ring a bell

Goodness. You should get SP2 by default, as an update (years ago). Unless you are running a copy?!

If you just right click on the 'my computer' icon, that should give us a bit more to go on.

Do your widows updates.

go to start, windows update then follow the instructions

run chkdsk /f

1. How to Run Check disk in windows XP

Go to start, run, type “cmd”, make sure you are on your root drive (usually C:\), type “chkdsk /f”, type “Y” .

Then restart your system

*if you are not on your root drive type “cd C:\ “ assuming C:\ = your root drive*


run disk cleanup

2. How to run Diskcleanup in windows XP

Go to Start, programs, accessories, system tools, disk cleanup.

Select the drive you want to clean.

After it scans the drive select all the boxes you want to clean files out of.

(usually all of them)

Click ok.

defrag your harddrive

3. How to defrag a harddrive in windows XP

Go to start, programs, accessories, system tools, disk defragmentor.

Select the drive you want to defrag and press “defrag”

(this may take a while)


scan your computer for viruses/spyware

AVG antivirus

by some ram and get atleast like 512 because 128 is even less when your playing games...
