Yeah, it should be running at 2.6ghz, or 2600mhz.

Have you by any chance got some kind of stepping mechanism on to slow the processor down when idle?

No, it's right. If you use CPUz, it shows the clock speed as it varies. Idk why. the highest clock speed is the right one. It's at 2.67 GHz.

Intel Speed Step I would say, it reduces the multi / voltage when the cpu is idle.

There are only quads available ATM. The 920 has four cores, two threads per core. That's why eight threads appear in the task manager.
