Well if AVG scans things, youll have to disable system restore. Then you should be able to easily reomevt he browser add-ons from hijackthis and remove the files from avg. Simple

Bluto I'm not sure I understand your advice? Perhaps you'd care to elaborate?

If you have AVG then can't it either clean or quarentine the infected files?

If it can't clean a file it's normally becauase that file is in use, if you look at the log it will tell you the name of the file, if it's an EXE you can use hijack this to terminate and remove the process.

Another reason that you may not be able to get rid of a virus is if it is in the system volume information folder, to remove virusses from here you need to look at the my computer properties and turn off the system restore, - you can turn it back on afterwards.
this is because the folder is protected and you can't even browse in this folder, the only way to get rid of files in this folder is to delete them al by turning off system restore.

Sorry, now i see it more clearly as i had a similar problem. My Restore folder was infected,so i disabled it,ran a scan and deleted the infected.
I hope you can do the same with whatever is running during scan.
Try here please.I've checked out AVG !!! not for me.
