Default i dont no whats up with my computer

i need help! my brothers computer is messed up. i think he has downloaded something bad. its a 98 windows hp with xp professional on it. everytime u turn it on, it gets were it checks your drive for mistakes and it stops and turns off by itself and reboots, and i cant turn it on safe mode or the last time it worked good i cant even get it to turn on, and i dont even no if he has his restore disc, what is wrong and what do i need to do. can i get a new harddrive and do that and make it new or what can i do.. THANKS

Sounds like your hard drive pooped out on you. You know in bios you can turn of the scan that checks for mistakes. Try that. If that doesn't work than you can prolly get a replacement disc from hp. Because it's their policy. Try contacting them as well.

but the thing is that i cant even get logged on to change anything so i just watch it reboot itself over and over

Without a restore or XP cd you are out of luck. It needs a system repair but that requires a cd.
