As some of you know I've been making multiple posts on 2 builds I'm doing.

One of these builds is taking an older HP I had in the basement and installing Linux mint onto it.

I had to buy 2 RAM sticks ( 2x2gb ).

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146746

and

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAB0Z5G75580

When I installed the Mushkin RAM the computer just beeoed 5x @ start. Tried with only 1 RAN, same thing.
Tried with the other RAM and booted just fine.

Put both back in and nothing but 5x beeps.

So I assume 1 stick is DOA?

I installed both Samsung stiks booted just fine.

So 1 of the Mushkin RAM sticks is DOA I assume since only 1 worked.

I can return these 2 Mushkin 2 newegg for a refund I assume?

If all you change is the stick and the problem is magically solved, then yes. Just make sure it's not the RAM slot you are using. In that case it would be a motherboard issue.

I'm not sure how Newegg works.

As suggested, try other slots with good stick to eliminate slot problems.

Newegg are good about taking care of your returns. They'd have to test it and if found faulty, they'll replace it.

If they deemed it good and it's not, raise hell on resellerratings site and the office will take action to make you happy.

I've done it. I bought a brand new mobo and they sent me an opened box with damaged mobo in it. They said I did it and I said horse shit and raised hell. I got it replaced along with a $25 credit.

I did too from a local shop. Since he didn't have any more in stock he just returned my money.
