Greetings. I wish to purchase a computer, but I am not too keen on what kind of computer I should buy. I am here to ask for advice on what computer I should buy.

Please make sure that your recommendation pertains to ALL of these things:

--500-600 dollars
--good (if not great) graphics card
--60 GB (or more)
--1 GB RAM (or more)
--Windows XP Pro
--fast processor

I would prefer the computer to be a Dell or an HP, but that isn't absolutely necessary.

I thank you in advance.

ever thought about building your own ?
its not that hard tbh i have dont it several times over and with the help of everyone here you shouldnt have any problems
and you will get much more bang for your buck as its cheaper to build your own

also if you are buying a prebuilt you will be pretty hard pushed to find one with xp pro anymore most new pre builts come with vista of some flavour

If you don't build your own, then don't get a Dell whatever you do, get a HP.

true, if your getting dell the lower the price the sucker they get, but im not a fan of dell, i like HP, or gateway (but have never bought one myself, just have serviced three of them)

but i would outright recommend building your own, like muz said, with this site, you'll get tons of help with any problem that occurs and the process of building it. and you get a better computer for a cheaper price. thats a plus

Like everyone else, I also recommend building your own PC. You can get much more out of a custom build than a Dell or HP. If you aren't comfortable with doing it yourself, a local computer shop could do it for a small fee if you took the parts to them.

Some stuff we need to know if you wish to build your own PC:
What are you going to use it for?
What country do you live in? (Used for part buying)
The rest we need you gave us in the first post.

I too recommend building your own PC , I was like you when I first came here and hadn't even thought of building my own , but these guys convinced me to do it and it's very easy, here's a guide that explains it:http://www.buildyourown.org.uk/
You can get a much better PC for your money. For starters, please answer the questions posted by FlightSimBoy and we'll help you choose some parts.

EDIT: I've been looking at OSs on Newegg and Vista Home edition is cheaper than XP pro. Believe, Vista is no way as bad as alot of clueless people say, and I'm sure there are alot of people on this forum who would back that up. I'm running Vista 64bit edition which is said to be very troublesome but I've had no problems at all, some games I install need to be patched but apart from that, I've had no compatibilty issues at all.

If you don't build your own, then don't get a Dell whatever you do, get a HP.

I've worked alot with Dell and HP / Compaq. Honestly, both are terrible and I can't make a decision on whats worse.

IMHO, local no name PC shops are often the best, look for ones that have been in business for a long time. Find a local PC shop, get a quote and exact details (including which PSU) and post it up here.

Going by the requirements you stated in your first post, I'll build a base that we can work on but we need to know what you're going to do with the PC to answer precisely:

Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130071
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103206
Memory: God this cheap! (This guy doesn't sound like he's going to be OC'ing so I chose this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148097
GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127284
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182022
HDD:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148161
OS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116202
Disk drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106228
Choose whatever case you want.
Total: 575 I think.
The HDD I couldn't choose well as we don't know what size you need. The Mobo can run 2 cards in SLI so he can upgrade cheaply in the future.
Please leave feedback and build on this.

Nice build, but in his first post, he stated he wanted XP Pro for the OS. Also, the hard drive you selected will be good for him, it doubled his requirement.

I would try to find a different PSU, though. Ask Rudster and you will know why.

theres always frys..
there seling a nice q6600 ( i think numbers are right) intel core 2 duo for 599....
