I reckon HT was a bit of a market ploy to sell a bit more... i have HT technology on my Intel P4 and really it doesn't do much lol...hyper threading makes like a fraction of a second difference too small to notice...

Well it depends. Some programs do benefit from Hyper-Threading, but some actually perform worse with it. So you can't really just say that it flat-out sucks, because it doesn't.
