Default HP tape drives? Getting older files form HP tapes???

What computer equipment Do I need to get old files from
HP tapes???

I think the tapes are in QIC-80 format. 250mb
I have a 5g external tape drive but I am unsure it works.
I have a T1000 external tape drive and it I think it is usable.
The HP tape drives does not work with Win XP & athon 1000 computers.
I think the T1000 will work with Win 95 and a Gateway p166
but I do not have a useable P166 computer system.
So I will be looking for an older yard sale computer that
will be usable with these tape drives. Hopefully I will
transfer the files form the tape drives to the old computer's
hard drive.
After that I will take the old computer's drive out and slave
it to an Athlon 1000 computer to tranfer files.
What older "yard Sale" computer system should I be
looking that will work with these HP tape drives????
A system that will allow me to use its drive as a slave for
another computer system.
If anyone one has any other ideals to retrive these files, please
let me know. This project has become a big headach.

Thank you,
