Default How to remove thermal grease from CPU...

I recently had to clean thermal grease off my Core 2 Duo & heatsink. I used a damp paper towel to get most of it off (there's still a few smudges, but whatever). I never had to do that before, but due to me needing to get a new motherboard, it was required.

I just want to know, for future reference, the safest way to remove thermal grease from the CPU without screwing yourself over (water inside the chip and whatnot). Actually, I've yet to test to see if my Core 2 Duo even works after that. <_<

Thoughts?

I read somewhere that rubbing alcohol was a bad idea... or was that nail polish remover? 0_o

I'll try that to get the smudges off. Thanks!

I don't know what % this rubbing alcohol has in it but 99% Isopropyl alcohol is recommended

Tequilla would probably work but the point is the purity and residue left by the impure alcohols that cause problems, that's why 99% pure iso is recommended.

Ya isopropyl and coffee filters work great since they don't leave any lint behind.
