Default how to put excell files on a website so others can d/w

This must be SO basic, but I've not done it b4 and cannot find out how to put an excel doc on a web page so that visitors can choose to download it.

I've used WS_FTP to transfer the .xls to the page folder, but nothing appears onscreen when you view it in your browser.

I think you need to change the permissions in your ftp for the file, I also tried putting files on my site before so people could download it, but when you right click and say save target as you got an error message so try changing the file permissions to some like 777 so everyone can read write and execute
