Default how much ram can my processoe handle

hello all

i have a dell dimension 5100 and would like to know how much ram i have, at moment i have measily 502mb ram (yes, computers can still run at that speed nowadays, barely) and i would like to know a way of finding out the the limit i can put in.

its got an intel pentium 4 processor (3.2GHz) and the the motherboard name is 0J8885 . can pass on any more info if needed

Your computer has four memory slots that support up to 1GB modules. So the max you can install is 4GB.

Crucial has a nice system scanner that will show what you have and what memory upgrades are available for your Dell.

will i have to instal anyhting else, like a fan to keep it cool, or is it basically plug in and super fast computing

Sorry for jacking your thread but I figured this would be the best place to ask this question. I used the crucial scanner and it showed this http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartsp...EEDEAEA5CA7304 was compatable for my laptop. On newegg they have this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227105 for alot less. Is the ram from newegg the same as the crucial memory. And is the OCZ memory any good.

That memory will work just fine in your laptop hayze. It's the same type and specs as the memory from Crucial. OCZ is one of the top memory manufacturers.
