how much better will my gaming rig be after i buy this new video card.

it would definitely improve your video performance
personally i like nvidia better, but you can get whatever you want
and if you are gaming, it might be nice to upgrade to a quad core depending
on what games you will be playing (crysis)

Actually the HD 3850 is probably the best mid-range card currently available and ATI make the fastest single card ATM. The HD 3870X2 beats the 8800 ULTRA and costs much less.
