Default How many bytes per second is processed with a 2GHz precessor?

How fast is a pentium 4 for example in bytes or mbps?

I don't know if bytes is the right word, Hz simply means cycles per second, so 2GHz is 2 x 10^9 cycles per second. What exactly goes on in a cycle is beyond me. Maybe someone else can answer this...

2 billion cycles per second..

AKA a lot.

One CPU at 2 GHz maybe able to process 50 gigs in a second, another at 2 GHz could do 100 gig. (just shooting figures off the top of my head)

It depends on lots of things such as cache, and pipeline lengths.

the Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® 5000 series handles up to 21 GB/s throughput from processor to memory and I/O.
A P4 3.06 GHz -
Pentium 4, FSB 400 MHz 3.2 GB/s
Pentium 4, FSB 533 MHz 4.2 GB/s
Pentium 4, FSB 800 MHz 6.4 GB/s

Good stuff Nik00117. Short and to the point. Thanks.

Although, even with a quad core, it doesn't feel like my beast can crunch 50gigs in a second.

Why you said that as if a p4 is faster than the quad-core john.
