Make sure your Windows Sound Settings for your sound card are balanced, so they don't overdo the speakers at high volumes.

With headphones, since they don't have an amp, I put the bass/treble on full, and the volume as high as I can stand without damaging my ears.
For speakers, I then turn the bass/treble to the middle, and the volume to around 50%
