IDK.... theres different ones.
So i guess $100 since they are usually around that range for a good one that will last awhile

OCZ StealthXStream OCZ600SXS 600W - $84.99

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Kentsfield - $274.99

Not sure which mobo tho.... and the ones i found are open box....
MSI P6N Diamond LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI - $105.99

MSI P6N SLI Platinum LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI - $85.99

Cant find the ram with the right speed or size so i picked another OCZ. the only one that has the right size and speed are the 2 x 1gb.
OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - $98.99

2 HDD's right?
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD502lJ 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - $139.98 ($69.99 each)

XFX PVT98FYDF9 GeForce 9800 GTX(G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - $199.99

LITE-ON Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 20X DVD±R DVD Burner - $28.99

$1033.92!!!! without shipping (with the first mobo)

or $1013.92 without shipping (with second mobo)

but be sure that these are pretty much an estimate since your friend might be thinking about another type of product, and depending on where he is going to get them, and the cost of the case, and shipping/tax.
So the total afterward will either be more or less.

Desktop -Cooler Master NV690/AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE/MSI 880G-E45 Motherboard/2 x 2GB DDR3 G.Skill Ripjaws X/Sapphire HD 5870 1GB GDDR5/CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX/Seagate 7200.12 500GB (OS), Samsung F3 1TB (Storage)/Sony DVD Burner/Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

I still think the Q6700 is overpriced. I would go with:

You'll get a much more stable and better featured motherboard with a P45 than with an Nvidia chipset.

HD 4850
As fast as, or faster than the 9800GTX for cheaper.
AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE @ 4.0GHz + TU120E lapped - MSI 770-CD45 AM3 - 2x2GB OCZ DDR3 1333MHz - Sapphire HD 4870 - Samsung Spinpoint 500GB 7200RPM 16MB cache HDD - Tagan TG600-BZ Piperock - (Currently open test bed) - Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit.
