How can i have 2 OS on one hard drive

You need 2 partitions or 2 HDD. You can install them on the same partition but its bad practice and MS frowns upon it (although some people here are saying its ok) i can back mine up, and i await someone to back up a claim that 2 OSes on the same partition will be stable.

ok so i have install xp already, could i still put vista on it?

depending on how much free space you have, the program G-parted can re-partition the hard drive so you can do the dual boot, without messing up your current install.

Using a program like that is the only safe way of doing it that i know of. If you know what your doing, i'm sure fdisk could do it, or like Raffaz said, some say its ok just to install over it, but i'd stay away from that.
