you can try and over clock your processor a little to increase performance.

You aren't going to be able to overclock on a prebuilt... It's not a good idea to OC on stock cooling anyway.

I think you should reinstall Windows, use AVG as an anitvirus, and keep up with maintenance after the Windows reinstall. OS reinstalls do wonders to to speed up a bogged down system. AVG uses less system resources and works great for a free antivirus.

Keep in mind anti-virus programs are good and all, but they are the largest system resource hog, so if you can live without one (aka use common sense), you will see a much faster computer.

Even common sense isn't good enough. You can pick up random viruses everywhere, no matter how hard you try not to get them. Better to be safe than sorry. AVG doesn't take up many resources and effectively does what it's made to do.
