How can I find out if anyone is stealing my wireless internet?

We live in a terraced street and speeds have been particularly slow over the past few days and I have a feeling someone in neighbouring houses has picked up the wireless signal.

Even if this isn't the case how can I check anyway?

go to your router's status page... you should see logs, wireless activity, etc. also, you can look in the DHCP section and look in the DHCP list to see who is connected (only shows MAC addresses)

so i have 6 MAC addresses and five people on the network

is the sixth the router? or is someone being naughty

also how can i stop it if they are?

Just block their ip addresses from the bit that wont allow the ips on the network, how secvure is your security or dont you have any, please remember one or two of them will have to be your comps.

You could use command prompt and netstat...

i can block it easily enough, i have found out how,

but is the 6th ip the router? there should be 5 computers on the network and one router so is the 6th ip the router or the invader?

It is probably the invader becuase the console you are using is on the router its self, so they are probably hididn there ip so they cant get caugh, have you setup any securtiy?

yes security is on, i'm not sure how it stops an intruder though, i mean we are all "intruding" on the signal in a way, how can it differenciate?

i can set up wep easily enough, what does it do? Will I have to adjust all 5 computers that should be on the network? How do I do it?
