Default Hide and seek

Friends please help!Big problem.I am using xp sp 1.My problem is whenever i select the 'show hidden files and folders' in the folders option,it automatically reverts back to 'do not show.......'.I have some really important stuff which is hidden.And now i cannot access them.I have done anti rootkit and anti malware scan and removed some malwares but it didnt work.Please help

to me its sounds like a virus or a nasty xp error, i would format. sry

No need to format. That would be an extreme solution to a simple problem. There are a few viruses that do what you are describing. Make sure to run your scanners in safe mode and remember to turn off system restore before doing so.

Hi Harsh,
Your folder problem occurred due to virus, especially Trojan virus. Even i was facing the same problem, since my anti virus was not updated, So i got to format my PC and then i need to install the updated Anti virus software. Well that solved my problem. I am sure yours will also be solved similary.
