Hey guys im new to the threads. I was just looking into building a computer rather than buying one through Dell or such companies. I was looking for a rather fast computer with some of the latest yet affordable technology. I was looking for a computer i could play games on, use internet, rip dvd's and cd's, and just about any multimedia need. I was looking at Athlon 64 X2 dual cores and Athlon 64 FX's. I currently use a Dell computer with 512 MB RAM, Pentium 4 2.8 GHz processor, a Nvidia Geforce 4 MX 420. I wanted to know what would be a great graphics card for playing games such as Elder Scrools Oblivion, Call of Duty 2 and such games. Also, what processor and such. Any Help would be Greatly appreciated, i know im not very new to computers and computer technology, be kind please. Here's a site i used to help build a computer.

ArrizX_MuziK thank you for your welcoming

Actually i was just looking for someone to help me pick out a processor well suited and capable enough for the tasks i have listed above. Also, i wanted help on selecting a video card that would be well enough to make graphics proficient in games like Elder Scrolls Oblivion, call of duty 2, battlefield 2, etc. I just wanted to make a good gaming computer, and a computer that would be well suited for my needs as multimedia goes with DVD burning and CD burning and such. Im quite new to all the new names and specifications of computers. I also wanted to know whats pros n cons of PCI express?

Well, firstly..
There are no cons to PCI ex. It is the best graphics interface to date. Fastest. x16, its faster then the fastest AGP which is x8, twice as fast. I listed a nice card for PCI ex. Anyways.. what is your budget for the processor?

hmm.. im not quite sure what my budget would be. This is all going in towards my graduation present from my parents plus whatever cash i fork into it. Im not familiar with indivual prices on Processors. Whats the difference between Athlon X2 dual core and Athlon FX 60 though ... which is more proffecient? Sorry for the questions which are probably very easy for you. im just trying to get my facts straight before i go blowing any money, i just want a great system and not get one through a mainstream company, i just wanted to build one.

Lol, questions are good!!

Well the Athon X2 are dual cores, as you stated, and the FX series.. Is like.. The best of the Amd line. Have a look for your self.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ion=Athlon+FX&srchInDesc=&minPrice=&maxPrice=

And here is the X2 series

Trust me, when I say you need to be filthy rich to have a FX processor. Its so much power, its almost uneeded. For the games, and such that your talking about, well I would reccomend this processor to you..

Its very nice. Alot of power. No bottlenecking your video cards. Great processor, if thats too much for you, go a step down to the 3800+.

But how long do you plan to own this computer? Because, if you dont need this future proof, you can go single core. Not as efficient, but a single core processor, is better for gaming. Also not future proof for games, because soon the games will be utilizing the second core (as of right now, very few games do). But in essense, the dual core is a much better choice.

And by the way, congrats on graudation. Im only a freshmen (15). I still have a few years :(

Oh well, Lol *shrug*

hey your pretty smart for being a freshmen wow!

hey you care if i talk to you threw AIM at all ? and ask a few more questions about how the single core processor vs dual core processor for gaming
