A fellow is selling a 200 gb ide maxtor hard drive..

What is exactly IDE? I am thinking of purchasing it..

Integrated Drive Electronics - IDE

It's the connection type ... used to be the standard type, but Serial ATA or SATA is becoming the new standard connection type.

If you can ... confirm that the hard drive functions before buying it.

IDE uses those wide cables or probably well known as ribbon cable. Almost museum quality.

Serial uses these thin flat cables that you'll barely notice its even there.
