Default Help W/ Friends Computer...not sure what it is

Basically, his computer does a number of things. For one, on boot his mouse/keyboard don't work sometimes and he has to reboot several times in order to get them working. Once they work, they stay working. Until they crash, that is. by crash, I mean it freezes. Also, one time his computer started to "beep rapidly like a bomb", so he had to reboot twice (keyboard didn't work the first time. Any diagnosis?

And I don't have access to it, this was over AIM

The "beep rapidly like a bomb" sounds more like a keyboard type error than a memory error.

Does it have any stuck keys and does he have another he could try?

hmm, this happened when it was already on, and it only happened once, so I'm not quite sure.

Hmm. . .
Does he have any monitoring software installed? They will beep like that when something overheats.

Not even just software, the system's BIOS could be designed to do that as well.

I'm also wondering about the keyboard controller, assuming he's using a PS/2 keyboard.
