I'm having troubles with removing this DLL file. I'm pretty sure that it is causing this popup that will not stop coming up. I have 4 pop-up blockers that are constantly on, and I've also used 5 different adware scanners to look for a way to get rid of this popup.

Anyhoo, the DLL is called 'assest.dll' and is located in C:\WINDOWS.

I want to delete this file, but when I try, it says:
Cannot delete assest.dll. Access is denied.
Make sure that the disk is not write protected and that the file is not
currently in use.

So, I then proceed to go to the Command Prompt, and type in this:

CD C:\WINDOWS
REGSVR32 \u assest.dll

I do this in hopes that it will unregister the .DLL file, but it says this instead:
Assest.dll was loaded, but the DllUnregisterServer entry point was not found.
The file cannot be registered.

Does anybody know how I can get rid of this pesty DLL file?

Also, if this helps any, the popup is from a place called: exclusive-xxx.info

Now, I do not visit any pornographic websites, but I'm not the only person using this computer. I've cleared my temporary internet files, cookies and history multiple times. Any help is DEFINITELY appreciated! :)
Thanks.

Have you tried renaming and deleting it in Safe Mode? Perhaps try removing it from the Registry. It may be some form of related adware or spyware file. Try running a spyware program to see if it detects anything associtated with the exclusive-xxx file and remove it.

Well, I went into Safe Mode, but my computer kept freezing. It was not doing this earlier in the day.

I just came back into my standard startup, and went into the registry and deleted the key for it. I just now renamed the file in the WINDOWS folder, but I cannot delete it for the same reason.

On a bit of a different note, does anyone know how I could prevent this popup from ever coming up again? I'm currently running MSN's popup blocker, Yahoo's popup blocker, Google's popup blocker, and Spyware Doctor's popup blocker. Yet this popup will still come up from time to time. Thanks again.

Try pressing ctrl + alt + del and stop explorer. Then go new, run 'cmd'. The run the command without explorer running. That should work.

Ahhhh... I tried this. I tried unregistering it, but it still wouldn't work. I tried the command 'del assest.dll' and that worked. The problem is, the file keeps coming back! Oh no!

Any more ideas?

Shucks. I'm retarded. Assest[dll] belongs to the program Spyware Doctor. No wonder it kept coming back, cause I had it turned on.

Nonetheless, my problem is still not solved :(. Is there any program that I can download to prevent this popup from coming up asides from the ones that I'm already using? Google, MSN, Yahoo are the main ones that I'm using.

Thanks!

It's a system file...

XP's built in WFP system will reinstall it. You can yank it out all day long and xp will put it right back.
Have you disabled the messenger service? A lot of pop up ads that just seem to go around the popup blockers come thru there.
Get shoot the messenger.

A handy dandy little program to close the door on spam.

Alright - thanks. I have it turned on now. Hopefully I don't see this popup anymore! ;)

Norton Systemworks or Norton Internet Security seem to do an excellent job blocking pop ups and other adds. I have no pop ups at all since I install this software. Highly recommended.
