You could swap that 6600gt for an x700pro, that would put him in his budget, and give him better HL2 performance.

Well 2,000 is a large budget. So here is what i'd do from top to bottom includign OS lets go with basic XP pro.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16837102153 141 bucks

Now lets get onto the mobo

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813123243
Epox is the shit trust me i lub them thats 84 bucks

Now you want power so lets put you in the hot seat and give ya a AMD 3500 which is EXTERMELY GOOD

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103514
For 273 its a good deal

Now you said you wanted to do video editing. I'm pretty sure a geforce 7800 (top of de line) will be able to handle anything you toss at it with EASE!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130234

Now get a stick of 1 GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145310
131

HD wise i'd go with a 300 GB which is HUGE
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144393
144.00

Now keyboard wise i'd go with
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823150008
19.90

Then with a normal mouse
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826105168
12.00

And your set with a extra 112 bucks. Which if you wanted too you could put that money into a extra stick of ram, or maybe a different case.

Now case wise i'd go with somthing that looks kinda good for cheap
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811164040
29 bucks

Now power supply i'd get a 520 Watter
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817148009
55.00

Now sound system with 2,000 dollar computer why do you want to get somthing cheap? Well a 5.1 logitech 280 watts will rock your world
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16836121121
128

now a 19inch mointor autto be enough
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824168005
249.00

The chipset on the mobo is only nforce4, i would recommend a mobo with a nforce4 ultra chipset, like the CHAINTECH VNF4/Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813152049
$86.00 + $3.50 shipping = $89.50

Yes, I agree with mr monger...why no floppy.
While things are moving away from floppy diskettes and all that. It is too early to just get along without one. For the 10 bucks, get a floppy to go with your system.

O yea dude. Seriously I use a floppy even today. I mean sure they got those memory sticks. But I don't got one. So I still use floppies.

the only time i ever use a floppy now is for bringing home school projects. if you are out of school or don't do homework there is really no need for floppies anymore.
