Default Help! Opinions needed

Hi guys as you can probably tell by the number of posts I am brand spanking new to these forums. So don't be too harsh on me!

Right, I am looking to start pc gaming as I have a long 4 month summer ahead of me as well as the next 4 years (student) and wanting to fill out the time with some friends.

So being a complete pc noob and through only my research online I have came up with a few specs that I should be aiming for in a gaming pc build. You guys can tell me otherwise. Looking for it to be under 800 pounds hopefully due to not being a very rich student!

Processor: i5 2500k
GPU: nvidia gtx 660
Psu: 650w corsair 80+
Ram: 8gb have no clue on brand or other specialisations
Hard drive: won't need anymore than 250gb (possible to get ssd with my budget?)
Mobo: have no idea whatsoever on what to get!

Would it be realistic to get a desktop with this spec for the price set? I am not afraid to get dirty and build it myself if it saves cost etc. or not such a build is already pre made! Trying to get a bare minimum gaming pc spec built here so don't be afraid to tell me where I should be chopping and changing.

Great Thanks to Anyone who replies!

Hi Cammy and welcome.

Firstly it might be worth looking into motherboard bundles (you get a mobo complete woth RAM and CPU). Just look for one that has a fairly decent processor and RAM.

And secondly the general rule of thumb with SDD at the mo is have one for the OS and then a normal hard drive for everything else.

But the spec you listed should be ok for mid range gaming at least, though my knowledge on intel isn't that great.

OS: Windows 7 64-bit Case: Commander MS-I
Mother Board: GA-880GM-UD2H CPU: AMD PhenomII X4 965 3.4GHz(Stock) RAM: 16GB GPU: GeForce GTX 550 Ti

This build is fine.

On the subject of SSD, check if the games you want to play now can benefit from installing on SSD (and in what ways). In most cases, installation on SSD means much faster loading screens, but improvement on actual gameplay is minimal.

Depending on game type, be sure to look into proper KB and mouse.
