Help Me decide WHat CPU to Get

The 3200+ should be enough. I haven't had a single problem with my p4 3.0Ghz yet. (oblivion doesn't run with full settings, but that's because of the 6800GT I have) Bf2 runs fine with maxed out settings (without aa and that kinda stuff) without any lag.

Yeah, well a 3200+ with a X1900 XT isn't exactly balanced and yes it does bottleneck. It would be better if I had a 6800 GT actually.

It arrived Yesterday

Gotta love getting things next day. Even though i paid for 3 day shipping

I ordered at 1:30 Pm and got it the next day.

It was shipped out of Memphis, i live in nashville so its close.

Anyway, i ended up having to reset my BIOS and it worked fine.

I ran 3D Mark 03 Before and After with just changing the Proc.

I know 3D Mark Is all about the GPU but, i ran it non the less.

I started with 12,450 and ended with 12,900 thats at stock speeds.


I let it run for about 5 hours and monitored my temps, Proc Sits at about 29-32 Degrees Celcius.

I have not tried to overclock yet, and will tongiht.


BTW how do you find out what stepping you have? is it written on the Proc Die?

Yeah, on the heatspreader of the processor. The second line is usually the one you want to take note about. The rest doesn't matter that much, but you can write it down just in case.

ALright i need some help overclocking
I keep running into a brick wall , and ither my windows will blue screen or my system wont POst and i need to reset the BIOS.

My specs are

ABIT Kn8 Ultra
AMD Opteron 165 My stepping is CCBBE 0616XPMW (Stock Cooler)
RP 550 Watt PSU
4X 512MB of Coarsair XMS

The highest i pushed it myself was 2.2 GHZ
these were my settings
HT=auto
FSB=250
RAM Speed=266
9X multiplier

temps are 30C


MY GOAL is 2.6 to 2.7 GHZ

Can you boys help me get there

Does HT = Your RAM divider?

It either means HyperThreading or HyperTransport. Since it's an AMD processor, it'll be HyperTransport.

K default is supposed to be 5X i understand....
